No 2019. gada 2. septembra LU DzSC viesojās Tallinas Universitātes doktorantūras studente Merlina Kirikala (Merlin Kirikal). Viņas pētījums ir veltīts feministiskajai literatūras kritikai modernisma studijās.
Merlin Kirikal is currently a PhD-student at Tallinn University. In her thesis she is merging feminist literary criticism with (new) modernist studies. She analyzes affirmatively but at the same time contrary to some accepted theoretical standpoints the oeuvre of the Estonian writer Johannes Semper (1892–1970). Her main interest lies in how the gendered body is represented in Semper's fiction and essays and in the complex ways the modernist (organic) aesthetics intertwines with particular body-ideals and sociocultural contexts. As a visiting PhD-student in the Center for Gender Studies her main objectives are to finish her fourth article and draft the final version of the analytic overview for her thesis. Therefore, in Riga she aims to gather new ideas and (re)formulate old ones through active listening/networking and discussions. She plans to give an oral presentation and propose a reading/sharing group in feminist literary criticism.
